Highlights from this year’s Safer Internet DayThe 22nd edition of Safer Internet Day was once again packed with new initiatives and activities. First of all, this edition has a completely new appearance: as part of the wider redevelopment of the Better Internet for Kids (BIK) platform, there’s now a brand new Safer Internet Day website, and more importantly, a new SID mascot, Ally!

On Wednesday, 11 May 2022, the European Commission adopted a new European strategy for a Better Internet for Kids (BIK+), which aims to improve age-appropriate digital services and ensure that every child is protected, empowered, and respected online.

Global Safer Internet Day celebrations: Albania's activities

ISIGURT.al Albania, starting from 2025, has launched a hotline for Safe Internet in Albania with the primary goal of reporting any incident of any form of online violence at the national level, being a trusted flagger for all global social media platforms.The staff of ISIGURT.al, since October 2024, has been committed to conducting awareness sessions across Albania in more than 40 schools in the country, raising awareness among more than 800 students and over 200 parents.

Portuguese Safer Internet Day seminar 2025: Shaping digital citizens of tomorrow

On 11 February 2025, Aveiro hosted the Portuguese Safer Internet Day (SID) seminar, a key event in the celebrations of the 22nd edition of Safer Internet Day. This year’s theme, Digital Citizenship Education, highlighted the importance of equipping individuals with the necessary skills to navigate the digital world critically, ethically and responsibly. The seminar, organised by the Portuguese Safer Internet Centre Consortium, was part of a wider initiative under the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education, led by the Council of Europe.

In the spotlight: Safer Internet Centres Finland and Luxembourg

As part of the Better Internet for Kids (BIK) Quality Assurance Programme (QAP), the Insafe-INHOPE Coordination Teams are jointly conducting a set of fifteen country visits to national Safer Internet Centres (SICs) to better understand what is happening in the Member States: monitoring emerging issues and challenges, identifying good practices to be shared, and harvesting the results of Better Internet for Kids (BIK) policy. On 14-15 November 2024, an online cluster meeting took place with the Finnish and Luxembourgish SICs.
